Chanel is a label known worldwide and the man behind the designs is Karl Lagerfeld. He is not only the genius behind Chanel, but also his own label “Karl Lagerfeld” and Fendi. Karl is not just a brilliant designer, but has also become an acclaimed photographer. His personal style is characterized by black sunglasses, high collars, and fingerless gloves. He says he has never looked like anyone else and has never wanted to look like anyone else. Perhaps the greatest lesson we can take away from this muse is simply to.. be you.

I love the Londoner’s style and Peaches is in the tops for sure. London is such a great city and if that city had a different climate and I would love to live there. Climate aside, this city is fabulous and shopping in London provides countless muses as most of the shoppers look amazing. I did not however discover Peaches randomly on one of my trips. She emerged stateside on the fashion radar and has permanently landed on my faves list. I love her sartorial choices of tights with dresses and heels. What can I say? These are a few of my favorite things.

I love to travel. Love. One of the places I would love to see and visit is Greece. It seems as though it has everything for me.. history, sunshine, beach and I do love Greek food. While I may not know when I will make my voyage across the Atlantic to the Greek Isles, the lovely webby world allows me some glimpses until I can get there.. one day.. to ride around on a moped in my sundress and aviators soaking in the sunshine.

In honor of the Grammy Awards tomorrow night I thought I would gather some fashion inspiration from the musically inclined. Fashion has always played a vital role in the music world.. well especially the marketing of it. I love to see how the lighting, choreography, and of course the clothes are orchestrated to create what we hope is a brilliant live performance. And it is those live performances that I’m so looking forward to. Of course, there are artists, whether on or off stage, whose style I find interesting. Rihanna and Lady Gaga would probably top that list because of their fearlessness. And then there are those artists whose stage or personal style is not quite as daring but they are still worth style inspiration.. Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Michael Buble...
I figured in addition to some pictures, I would add some videos of artists I like that, as far I know anyway, won’t be at the Grammys. I have loved Mutemath from the beginning and probably will well into the future. I adore the cutesy-ness of Lenka. And the lyrics and sounds of Brooke Fraser has me ready and waiting for a third CD. So perhaps you will also enjoy them too..

I have long admired the fashion ways of Kate Moss. As a model she naturally looks great in clothes and knows how to showcase them. Let’s be honest though, I see plenty of naturally thin, could be a model, girls whose style I do not admire or they simply lacking a style altogether. Kate not only has great style but she has championed that creative expression into a successful label. Visit TOPSHOP to view her collections and designs and while you are there take a look around. That is one of my favorite shops with designs from one of my favorite muses. How could you lose?

It is Australia Day and no I’m not Australian. I was born in Barbados and have grown up in the States, but I love that land down under. Sydney has become my favorite city and one that I would love to live in one day for at least a portion of my life.. however short that portion may be. I have had the enjoyment of visiting this land and loved it so much it kept drawing me back.. oh um, three more times. It will be three years this spring since my last visit and only the allure of exploring new places has kept me at bay. So in honor of said Australia day I though I would compile some famous some famous and/or fashionable Australians. This land did give us Simon Baker, Hugh Jackman, and Keith Urban.. let’s be thankful. Happy Australia Day.

Recently, a determination has come over me to um, I suppose, become a “blogger” of sorts. Yes, I did start this with that intention, but that little negative voice in my head did prove to hinder me. The efforts were there, the confidence however was lacking. Julie and Julia, coupled with other blogger inspiration has provided me with a new resolve. The “who do I think I am” self doubts, the “I’ll come up short” comparisons, and fear of failure has been slightly louder than the good. Yes, still working, still improving what is here. Still growing, still learning as many new things as I can. And yes, there will always be more to learn so I will likely never “feel” ready. Life is so full and amazing and while I’m constantly learning new things, I can still offer what I have come to know.. that is if I don’t let the little voice in my head discount it. The value in others is so much clearer to me than my own, so I suppose in this blog of musings to celebrate others, I will also learn to celebrate me. Perhaps your battle is similar to mine.. so let be the one to remind you.. You are unique and what you contribute to this world is impossible to replace or duplicate.

So unashamedly be you.. ‘cause no else can.

In honor of my new found resolve, I am highlighting the black leather jacket. I love my (pleather.. couldn’t pass up a good deal) jacket for adding just a touch of “bad ass” to my skirts or dresses. Add black tights and booties then you’re good to go.

My favorites: Diane Kruger, Sandra Bullock, Christina Aguilera, Chloe Sevigny, and Penelope Cruz. Then of course there is THE Johnny Depp, whose style always is among my tops.

I’m freezing. Yes, I do live in Florida, but seriously it is below freezing outside. Blankets have to be put on plants, Orange crops are in danger, and I am inside covered head to toe with a blanket on and yes, the heat is working overtime. We are just not made for this weather.
The beauty of these temperatures is it opens the door for new outfits. I can now layer up and not pass out from overheating. With all this mind, I found some inspiration to help me survive these atrocious weather conditions.

I recently (okay two days ago) bought some black flat thigh high boots, and I have worn them since (well the past two days). I went with a pair of thigh highs that can transition into knee highs with a flip of the flap which barely qualifies them as thigh highs, but I’m content. I love Rachel Zoe’s and Kim Kardashian’s thigh high boots and accompanying styles. Regardless of whether you prefer the style of Rihanna or Katy Perry, there is a thigh high boot out there for you.

Leighton Meester has graced many of my postings over the past few months and as of late she has donned two of my favorite outfits. I love the belted sweater over the dress and I have yet to see anyone do it better.
Though Gossip Girl is known for the fashion, it is Leighton’s street style I love more. She has a way of looking chic and edgy, sophisticated and young. Somehow she pulls it altogether and showcases an individual style worth observing. And this style muse will no doubt, be around for a while to come.

I loved the picture of Lenny Kravitz with his daughter Zoe which in turn inspired this post. For some, the talent and fashion sense seem inherited, but the search to find individuality is no doubt a journey we all take. While Madonna is iconic, her daughter is quickly becoming a style icon in her own right. Stella McCartney, the daughter of Paul McCartney, has established herself as a successful fashion designer. Emma Roberts, like her Aunt Julia Roberts, is making her mark in the acting world with that unmistakable smile and becoming a fashion inspiration all her own. I just love the Geldof sisters and their accompanying styles. And fashion lovers have long since followed Nicole Richie, daughter of Lionel Richie. Beyonce and her sister Solange are leaving their marks in the fashion and music worlds.
Perhaps some don’t have to look far for inspiration.. but the process in discovering who you are is journeyed by us all, regardless of our family tree.

When it comes to self expression I don’t believe in rules or fashion police. However, when it comes to dressing your body in the most flattering way, guidelines exist. I have found from experience followed by observation that mid-calf boots are the most unflattering style. After many frustrating attempts to sport my mid-calf purchases I almost gave up completely on boots. Eventually however, I discovered my style selection was the issue and so my love for ankle and knee high boots came to be.
There are no rules, but if you are looking for what will flatter, then consider where the boot ends. You want to avoid cutting your calf in half and thereby drawing attention to the largest part of your lower leg. You will in turn keep your leg line long resulting in a taller and leaner look. So this season, invest in ankle or knee high boots, made for.. showcasing your lovely legs.

Paris would have to be considered the mecca of the fashion world. It is no surprise then that shows are amazing and the attendees look amazing. Some are completely Parisian chic like Camilla Belle, while others hint at it and still maintain their bad-ass style like Kate Moss. The best part of fashion week is the celebration of all styles and creativity. I love it all. The classy Leigh Lezark, the anything goes, slightly disheveled Mary Kate Olsen and the completely adorable Leighton Meester. Whatever your taste you will surely find something appealing in Paris.
